Job Overview: The intern position is located within UNEP's Ecosystems Division, specifically in the Biodiversity, Landscapes and People Unit, under the Convening of Nature for Health project. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for the Nature for Health Project and will collaborate closely with various UNEP Divisions and Regional Offices. The role is designed to support the Nature for Health Team in organizing meetings and workshops, preparing documents, managing logistics, and achieving programmatic results. The intern will also assist in developing key communications materials for print, online, and social media, draft technical documents, and communicate with partners and consultants regarding programmatic activities. Additionally, the intern will conduct targeted desktop research to compile background information and track key policy developments, while also supporting other tasks as required based on their interests and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including: assisting the Nature for Health Team in organizing meetings and workshops; preparing necessary documents and managing logistics for project activities; developing communications materials for various platforms; drafting technical documents; facilitating communication with partners, consultants, and implementers; conducting targeted desktop research to compile relevant information; tracking key policy developments; and supporting other tasks as needed, aligned with the intern's interests and experience.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A Master's Degree or current enrollment in a Master's Programme in health sciences, One Health, environmental management, biodiversity conservation and management, development studies, social sciences, or a related field is required. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Candidates should also have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance for differing opinions and views.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree or current enrollment in a Master's Programme in relevant fields such as health sciences, One Health, environmental management, biodiversity conservation and management, development studies, social sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, candidates may have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a background in One Health, environmental management, biodiversity conservation and management, development studies, social sciences, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in sustainable development is desirable, as is experience in organizing events, conferences, or meetings. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are essential for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is considered an advantage.
