Job Overview:
The Computing Engineer position is situated within the office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at CERN. This role is pivotal in supporting the development and compliance of policies related to transversal computing activities across the organization. The successful candidate will provide analytical expertise and advice to various departments on the implementation of policies in critical areas such as Data Governance, Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, and Risk Management. The role involves leading participation in CIO Community Technical Committees and cross-department working groups, coordinating the implementation of the Office of the CIO's Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) workplan, and contributing to the review of new digital initiatives to ensure compliance with established policies. The Computing Engineer will also advise the CIO on the implications of ongoing activities related to computing services, making this a highly collaborative and impactful position within CERN.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead participation in CIO Community Technical Committees and task forces, providing expert advice in the CIO domain.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Office of the CIO GRC workplan items and review CIO policies with the CERN community.
  • Contribute to the review of new digital initiatives, ensuring compliance with GRC policies.
  • Advise the CIO on implications of ongoing activities in aspects of computing services.
  • Capture and analyze requirements for ICT systems, ensuring they align with best practices.
  • Implement ICT security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security standards and policies effectively.
  • Utilize software life-cycle tools and procedures for project management.
  • Verify and optimize ICT architectures and designs to enhance performance and security.
  • Produce comprehensive work/project plans that consider resources and contingencies. 1

  • Actively participate in the implementation of new processes and technologies, demonstrating flexibility. 1

Required Qualifications:
  • A Master's Degree or equivalent relevant experience in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Proven experience in computing service architecture, design, and delivery.
  • Solid understanding of IT governance concepts and policies.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to work effectively in a federated environment with distributed responsibilities.
  • Strong technical competencies in capturing and analyzing requirements for ICT systems.
  • Knowledge of best practices for implementing ICT security standards and policies.
  • Familiarity with software life-cycle tools and procedures.
  • Experience in verification and optimization of ICT architectures and designs.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Information Technology or a closely related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in the role of Computing Engineer at CERN.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have substantial experience in computing service architecture, design, and delivery. Additional Notes:
