Job Overview:
As a firefighter at CERN, you will be an integral part of the Fire and Rescue Service, working in a dynamic environment that requires 24/7 readiness. Your role will involve responding to emergencies, conducting safety inspections, and engaging in specialized rescue operations. You will undergo a comprehensive 10-week on-the-job training program tailored to CERN's unique environment, after which you will join your assigned team. The position demands a commitment to continuous training and professional development to ensure peak operational performance. You will also collaborate closely with both French and Swiss emergency services, enhancing your skills and knowledge in emergency response and safety management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities will include performing firefighting and medical emergency response operations, managing emergency dispatch activities from the Safety Control Room, conducting technical inspections and safety checks, and providing specialized assistance in confined space operations and hazardous material handling. You will participate in regular training drills and exercises, engage in fire prevention initiatives, and maintain firefighting and medical emergency equipment. Additionally, you will contribute to ongoing projects within the Fire and Rescue Service and assist with necessary administrative duties. Physical fitness is also a key component of your role, requiring participation in both individual and group fitness programs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold official diplomas and/or certifications confirming their education and training as a firefighter, issued by a recognized public or private body. These qualifications are essential for ensuring that you possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively in this role. Furthermore, you should demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and emergency response protocols, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Educational Background:
A formal education in firefighting or a related field is required, with certifications from recognized institutions. This educational background ensures that candidates are well-versed in the principles of fire safety, emergency response, and rescue operations, which are critical for the role of a firefighter at CERN.

Experience:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience as a professional firefighter, ideally within a public or company fire service. Experience in control room operations or ambulance settings is considered an advantage, as it provides valuable skills in emergency management and response coordination. The role requires a proactive approach to emergency situations and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. The ability to understand and communicate in both languages during everyday and emergency situations is advantageous. Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The role requires a valid C driving license and participation in regular standby duties, including nights, Sundays, and official holidays. Candidates must be prepared to work in radiation areas and undergo medical clearance due to the occupational health risks associated with the position. The job grade is classified as 2-3, and the working hours are set at 40 hours per week.
