Job Overview:
The Business Analyst position at CERN is designed for an experienced, agile-minded professional who is client-oriented and passionate about their work. The successful candidate will join the Business Computing Group, which consists of over 80 talented international colleagues responsible for delivering information systems across all of CERN’s business functions. This role involves liaising between agile teams, product managers, business partners, and users to understand their needs and advise on optimal solutions. The Business Analyst will engage in three main areas: solution analysis, strategic guidance, and relationship management. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of technologies and business areas, contributing to the development of custom-made solutions and large integrated systems that serve thousands of users.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Business Analyst, your responsibilities will include:
  • Solution: Analyzing business processes and systems to identify areas for improvement and optimization; developing and maintaining business process documentation using BPMN and specialized tools; guiding cross-functional teams in implementing process improvements and system enhancements; and applying UX principles and methodologies where applicable.
  • Strategy: Leading business analysis efforts to support strategic objectives; providing strategic guidance and recommendations to senior management based on analysis findings; and monitoring key performance indicators to track progress towards organizational goals.
  • Relationship Management: Collaborating with stakeholders to gather and prioritize business requirements; participating in BA/UX chapter activities; coordinating practices; contributing to the definition and continuous improvement of shared methodologies; and supporting the development and coaching of team members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or equivalent relevant experience in Business and Management, Design, Computer Science, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have experience in business analysis within business computing, a demonstrated knowledge of common business processes and best practices, and experience working in agile product management environments. Experience in coaching business analysts and specialists in agile roles, as well as involvement in strategic product initiatives, is considered a valuable asset.

Educational Background:
A Master's Degree or equivalent relevant experience in fields such as Business and Management, Design, Computer Science, or related disciplines is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in the role of Business Analyst.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in business analysis, particularly in the context of business computing. This includes a solid understanding of user relationship management, requirements capturing and analysis for ICT systems, process analysis and improvement, and conceptualizing user experiences and interfaces. Experience in agile product management environments and coaching roles is also highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language being essential. Proficiency in both languages will enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse international environment at CERN.

Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, with hybrid work flexibility allowing for 40% teleworking over a two-week period. The role may require work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed by the organization. The job grade is classified as 6-7, and the reference for this position is FAP-BC-PM-2026-109-LD.
