Job Overview: In the role of Staff Assistant (Data Management) at NISRF, you will be expected to leverage your substantial professional experience in geospatial information acquisition and management. This position is integral to supporting the J2 Intelligence Division, where your contributions will enhance situational awareness and operational readiness. You will be responsible for providing geospatial support to all digital users across the Core AGS network and the Main Operating Base (MOB). Your work will involve managing and maintaining the Geospatial Strategic Baseline of NATO, acquiring geospatial products and data, and ensuring the effective dissemination of geospatial information to various NATO commands. This role requires a mix of technical, analytical, and domain-specific skills to facilitate informed decision-making within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: Your duties will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: loading and maintaining the Geospatial Strategic Baseline of NATO to the AGS Core; acquiring geospatial products and data from NATO Command Structure (NCS) and operational commands; disseminating new geospatial information to SHAPE and other NCS commands as directed; managing the flow of both hard and soft copy designated geospatial information to and from NISRF, including deployed elements; maintaining a soft copy designated geospatial information store; managing and administrating static geospatial systems at the Main Operating Base; ensuring the provision of geospatial data and services to AGS Core systems; operating a CoreGIS Cartographic Workstation; acting as a point of contact on geospatial data issues for the FAS administrators of the AGS Core network; leading all aspects of archiving supplemented geospatial information; liaising with geospatial Data Managers in NCS; coordinating with the NISRF Data Manager Branch to avoid duplication of efforts; managing the transfer of geospatial information between different NATO networks; and manipulating geospatial data in appropriate formats to support AGS Core requirements and product generation.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must possess profound post-related experience, including expertise in the management of geospatial information, products, and data. Essential qualifications include higher secondary education with completed vocational training in geography, computer science, or a related discipline, leading to a formal technical or professional certification with at least three years of function-related experience. Alternatively, secondary education with advanced vocational training in the same discipline leading to a professional qualification or accreditation, accompanied by five years of post-related experience, is acceptable. You should also have advanced knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, databases, and spreadsheets, as well as adequate knowledge of Automatic Data Processing (ADP) systems. A good command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes higher secondary education and completed higher vocational training in geography, computer science, or a related discipline. This should lead to a formal technical or professional certification, accompanied by three years of function-related experience. Alternatively, candidates with secondary education and advanced vocational training in the same discipline leading to a professional qualification or accreditation, along with five years of post-related experience, will also be considered. A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in geography, land surveying, civil engineering, or related disciplines is desirable, particularly for candidates with two years of professional experience.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial professional experience in geospatial information acquisition and management. Essential experience includes knowledge of and expertise in the management of geospatial information, products, and data. The role requires a minimum of three years of function-related experience for those with higher vocational training or five years for those with advanced vocational training. Desirable experience includes involvement in the development and fielding of Geographic Information Systems, GI maintenance, processing, and dissemination, as well as previous experience in joint staff functions, preferably within a NATO or military environment.
Languages: A good command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. While English proficiency is essential, additional language skills may be considered advantageous, particularly in languages relevant to NATO operations or member nations.
Additional Notes: The position is full-time and offers a competitive salary of 4,723.81 Euro (EUR) monthly, classified under NATO Grade G12. The contract duration for newly recruited staff is initially set for three years, with the possibility of transitioning to an indefinite duration contract thereafter. The salary is tax-free and includes expatriation, family, and children's allowances, along with additional privileges for expatriate staff.
