Job Posting Organization:
The Division of Energy Planning, Information and Knowledge Management is part of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA was established in 1957 and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. The organization aims to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to prevent its use for military purposes. The Division consists of several sections, including the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section, Nuclear Information Section, and Nuclear Support Systems Group. The IAEA operates in over 170 countries and has a mission to strengthen capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, manage nuclear knowledge, and provide information services related to nuclear science and technology.

Job Overview:
The primary purpose of this consultancy position is to provide technical expertise and input to enhance the analysis of the impact of nuclear information services. The consultant will be responsible for delivering added-value services, such as identifying trends in research and improving outreach efforts among key stakeholders, including academia, the research community, and nuclear operators. The goal is to strengthen knowledge sharing and improve the discoverability of nuclear information provided by the IAEA's Nuclear Information Section (NIS). The consultant will implement knowledge sharing and documentation practices within NIS and facilitate communication and outreach to promote INIS services both internally and externally. This role requires a proactive approach to gather user feedback, create promotional materials, and organize knowledge-sharing activities and training seminars.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement knowledge sharing and documentation practices within INIS and among its counterparts in NIS and across the Agency, focusing on nuclear information retention and retrieval.
  • Facilitate communication and outreach to promote INIS services, gathering user feedback and creating relevant information materials.
  • Provide first-level responses to queries from INIS users, identifying requested nuclear information and guiding users on discoverability.
  • Organize knowledge sharing activities, training seminars, events, and meetings to enhance the understanding and use of nuclear information services.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen the outreach and effectiveness of INIS services.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of knowledge sharing initiatives and report on findings to improve future strategies.

Required Qualifications:
  • A university degree (bachelor's) in Information Management, Social Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in knowledge management, institutional memory management, communication and outreach, digital content curation, and information management projects.
  • Experience working in an international setting is essential.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English is required.
  • Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Information Management, Social Science, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage nuclear information and support knowledge sharing initiatives.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of four years of relevant experience in knowledge management, communication and outreach, and digital content curation. Experience in managing institutional memory and projects related to information retention is crucial. Additionally, prior experience in an international setting is highly desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to work in diverse environments and understand the complexities of global information management.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with an excellent command required for both oral and written communication. Knowledge of additional official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered a valuable asset and may enhance the candidate's suitability for the role.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy position offers a daily fee of up to a maximum of €200, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience. If duty travel is required, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs will be provided. It is important to note that health coverage and pension fund responsibilities lie with the incumbent. The position does not specify a contract duration or seniority level, but it is understood to be a consultancy role.
