Job Overview:
The position of Communications Graduate at CERN is designed for recent graduates in communications who possess a keen interest in occupational health and safety as well as environmental protection. The successful candidate will join a small team within the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department, where they will be responsible for developing communication materials across various formats and channels. This role involves producing content that effectively communicates key information to the CERN community, including the creation of articles, reports, newsletters, and multimedia content. The graduate will also play a significant role in the production of the biennial sustainability report, ensuring alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. The position requires a proactive approach to gathering information, researching topics, and collaborating with various teams to enhance the visibility of HSE initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Communications Graduate include:
  • Contributing to the production of diverse content types and selecting appropriate communication channels in accordance with the HSE communications plan.
  • Collaborating with CERN services, including audiovisual and design teams, to develop materials that support communications efforts.
  • Creating and regularly updating content for the HSE Department website, proposing improvements in collaboration with the HSE website coordinator.
  • Producing short videos to complement written communications and enhance engagement.
  • Assisting in writing announcements and articles for the CERN Community Bulletin and other relevant publications.
  • Supporting the drafting of chapters for the biennial CERN sustainability report, particularly the Environment sections, and developing associated web and video communications on significant projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Communication, preferably in Science Communication or a related field. The highest educational qualification required is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Applicants must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract, and those without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communication, preferably with a focus on Science Communication or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of communicating scientific and technical information effectively.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a maximum of two years of professional experience in communication roles since their graduation. This experience should ideally involve communicating scientific and technical information across various formats and channels, demonstrating the ability to research, absorb, and simplify complex information for diverse audiences.

Languages:
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are mandatory for this position, as the candidate will be required to produce both short and long-form content. Proficiency in spoken and written French is considered a distinct advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience within the CERN community.
