Job Overview:
The IC Security Guard position is essential for maintaining the safety and security of the UNISFA premises in Abyei. The role involves ensuring the effective management of security guard shifts, reporting incidents, and providing physical access control to all personnel, vehicles, and materials entering and exiting the UN premises. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and the Deputy Chief Security Officer (DCSO), and will be responsible for conducting thorough checks of vehicles and personnel, ensuring that all individuals display their ID cards, and preventing unauthorized access to the premises. The position requires a proactive approach to security, including routine patrols and inspections, and the ability to assist visitors and newly arrived personnel. The role is critical in safeguarding UN properties and ensuring the proper conduct of security operations within the camp.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IC Security Guard include:
  • Providing physical access and egress at UNISFA premises and facilities.
  • Conducting thorough checks of vehicles and personnel entering and exiting the UN premises.
  • Ensuring that all UNISFA personnel and visitors visibly display their ID cards.
  • Preventing unauthorized individuals and unknown parcels from accessing the UN premises.
  • Conducting inspections of passengers and baggage at MOVCON and the helipad.
  • Performing routine foot and vehicle patrols covering the entire area of the UN premises.
  • Assisting newly arrived personnel and visitors.
  • Safeguarding UN properties, particularly warehouses and storage areas.
  • Ensuring traffic control and proper parking of vehicles. 1
  • Maintaining the serviceability and cleanliness of security equipment and reporting any issues to the supervisor. 1
  • Being prepared to provide escort duties when required. 1
  • Reporting and registering all incidents that occur during the tour of duty as a security guard. 1
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Safety and Security Section through the Supervisor of the Guard Force Management Unit (GFMU).

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be legally authorized to work for the United Nations in Abyei. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of progressive experience in a security-related role, which may include work with local, national, or private police, security organizations, or fire brigades. Previous operational or administrative experience is also considered relevant. The position is locally recruited, meaning that applicants must be residents of the area and eligible to work in South Sudan.

Educational Background:
