Job Overview:
The Junior Marketing Communications Officer position within CERN's Knowledge Transfer Group (KT) is a pivotal role that focuses on developing and maintaining the marketing and communications strategy aimed at both industry and internal/external stakeholders. The officer will be responsible for evaluating and monitoring marketing activities, creating and updating various communication materials, and supporting events and website management. This role requires a proactive approach to content creation, including writing science and technology articles, managing social media campaigns, and producing multimedia materials. The officer will also need to keep abreast of the latest technologies to enhance communication delivery and assist with broader marketing activities within the IPT Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Marketing Communications Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the CERN KT marketing and communications strategy.
  • Evaluating and monitoring marketing activities through regular reporting.
  • Keeping updated on the latest technologies to improve marcomms delivery.
  • Creating and updating communication materials such as presentations, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Writing science and technology articles and news items.
  • Supporting events and website management.
  • Collecting technical information on CERN technology projects and KT Group activities.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously with varying timelines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong background in content creation, particularly in writing and producing marketing materials. Experience with social media campaigns, especially on LinkedIn, is essential. Familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva, as well as experience in producing multimedia content, is highly beneficial. Proficiency in using WordPress for website management is also required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate skills in developing marketing communication plans, event organization, and public relations.

Educational Background:
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communication, Marketing, Social Science, or a related field. Candidates without a university degree are not eligible for this position, and those with a PhD will also be disqualified. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the role, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and marketing strategies.

Experience:
The position requires a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should be relevant to the fields of communication, marketing, or social sciences, ensuring that candidates are well-prepared to contribute to the marketing and communications efforts at CERN.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to learning French. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required for this position.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job offers a hybrid working model. The target start date is October 1, 2026, or earlier. The position is classified under the Support Services field, specifically in Communications/Public Relations/External Relations. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5266 to 5793 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances.
