Job Overview: The Social Media Consultant will be responsible for developing strategies, managing campaigns, and advising organizations on optimizing their social media presence. The consultant will work remotely and report to the Special Assistant to the Executive Director, ensuring that all content aligns with ongoing campaigns and communication goals. The position requires a proactive approach to managing social media channels and engaging with the audience effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, schedule, and publish approved content across various social media platforms including LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Facebook, ensuring timely posting and active audience engagement.
Act as the community manager for the Executive Director’s social media accounts, monitoring and moderating comments on posts, and intervening as necessary to answer questions and guide discussions.
Produce engaging multimedia content such as graphics, stories, reels, and written posts tailored for the Executive Director's social media channels.
Research trends and relevant posts from partners, suggesting reposts to enhance engagement.
Collaborate with social media focal points across the organization to ensure cohesive messaging and strategy.
Maintain and update a social media editorial calendar for the Executive Director, identifying campaign opportunities, key events, milestones, and humanitarian anniversaries.
Work closely with the on-ground team to ensure that all content aligns with ongoing campaigns and communication objectives.
Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing, or a related field is required. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience managing social media channels, along with stellar social copywriting and editing skills. The ability to translate technical and nuanced information into clear, emotional, and engaging content for broad public audiences is highly desirable. Familiarity with social media scheduling tools and design tools such as Canva and Adobe Suite is also desirable. Strong organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and a solid understanding of social media platforms and content creation are essential. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary to work effectively with a virtual team.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, digital marketing, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the nuances of media and communication strategies necessary for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in managing social media channels. Candidates should have a proven track record of creating engaging content and effectively managing audience interactions. Experience with social media scheduling tools and design software is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, both oral and written. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French, is desirable but not mandatory. This bilingual capability can enhance communication within the UN system and with diverse audiences.
