Job Overview:
The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer will play a crucial role in establishing and implementing NRC's logistics systems and procedures within the Area Northeast Office. This position requires a proactive individual who is passionate about supporting humanitarian efforts and ensuring that logistics operations run smoothly. The officer will oversee the logistics team, ensuring compliance with NRC's policies and procedures, and will be responsible for procurement, fleet management, asset management, and warehousing. The Logistics Officer will also be expected to prepare reports and conduct market surveys to identify reliable suppliers and service providers. This role is vital for maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of NRC's operations in the region, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively and that the needs of the affected communities are met promptly.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Supervision and capacity building of the logistics team, ensuring that all team members are trained and equipped to perform their roles effectively.
  • Implementing NRC’s logistics policies and procedures regarding procurement, fleet, warehouse, and asset management at the office level.
  • Ensuring compliance with NRC’s Logistics Handbook and donor requirements in all logistics processes.
  • Maintaining transparency and cost efficiency in all logistics operations, including vehicle management and procurement.
  • Establishing a filing system and archive according to local requirements.
  • Managing the fleet, ensuring that vehicles are regularly serviced and maintained, and that all documentation is current.
  • Overseeing procurement processes, including preparing RFQs and ITBs, issuing purchase orders, and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
  • Maintaining an updated vendor database and conducting regular market surveys.
  • Managing and tracking all assets, ensuring accurate records of asset movements and disposals. 1
  • Supporting warehouse management, conducting stock checks, and ensuring proper stock release procedures are followed. 1
  • Performing any other tasks as delegated by line managers.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Logistics Officer position should possess the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field.
  • Proven experience working as a Logistics Officer in a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Strong fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient office organization skills and computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and coordinate effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of logistics management within a humanitarian context.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience working as a Logistics Officer, particularly in complex and volatile environments. This experience is crucial for navigating the challenges that may arise in humanitarian logistics and ensuring that operations run smoothly.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Hausa is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria, with a contract duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The position is classified as Grade 5 in NRC's grading structure. The reporting line for this role is to the Logistics Coordinator. It is important to note that this position is open to Nigerian nationals only.
