Job Overview:
The ET Consultant position focuses on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) within the World Bank Group's Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit. This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the organization's technology platforms, which support its mission of alleviating poverty and enhancing prosperity on a livable planet. The consultant will be responsible for implementing SRE practices, managing legacy middleware technologies, and driving modernization efforts towards cloud-native architectures. The position requires a proactive approach to operational improvements, automation, and the development of self-service capabilities. The consultant will work closely with various teams to align technology initiatives with the Bank Group's strategic objectives, ensuring that technological investments contribute to the overall mission of the organization. The role also involves monitoring platform health, leading knowledge transfer initiatives, and ensuring compliance with IT service management processes and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the ET Consultant include:
  • Implementing and operationalizing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs), managing error budgets, and establishing observability and incident response protocols across hybrid cloud and on-premises platforms.
  • Managing and supporting legacy middleware technologies such as JBoss, Apache, WebSphere, and IIS while actively driving modernization efforts towards cloud-native and containerized architectures.
  • Designing and maintaining Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) frameworks using Terraform and GitOps, and automation workflows to minimize manual intervention and operational toil.
  • Building self-service and self-healing solutions, including auto-remediation playbooks and chaos engineering exercises, to enhance platform resilience and reduce reliance on human intervention.
  • Monitoring platform health through observability tools like Dynatrace and Splunk, and driving continuous improvement against defined SLOs and reliability targets.
  • Leading knowledge transfer, documentation, and runbook development to eliminate single points of failure and enhance team-wide operational capabilities.
  • Contributing to the Platform as a Product strategy by embedding SRE principles into all platform deliverables and advising on architectural decisions for reliability and scalability.
  • Ensuring compliance with IT service management processes, security standards, and business continuity requirements, including disaster recovery planning and adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 4-5 years of hands-on experience in Site Reliability Engineering, demonstrating the application of SRE principles such as SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, observability, incident response, and chaos engineering in high-availability environments. An SRE certification is considered an advantage. Proven experience with legacy middleware platforms and modern application stacks is essential, along with strong proficiency in DevOps/DevSecOps tooling and hands-on experience with multi-cloud platforms.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field with at least 5 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. The focus should be on fields related to Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering, as these areas provide the foundational knowledge necessary for the technical demands of the role.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 4-5 years of hands-on experience in Site Reliability Engineering. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in applying SRE principles in high-availability environments, as well as experience managing legacy middleware technologies and modern application stacks. Familiarity with DevOps/DevSecOps practices and tools is also essential, along with experience in cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.
