Job Overview:
The Logistician is responsible for managing logistics at their assigned base, ensuring compliance with donor and SI procedures. This role involves implementing and supervising all logistics operations, organizing logistical support for programs, and assisting the field coordinator in enforcing safety rules. The Logistician also plays a key role in supporting, monitoring, and training team members. The position is critical in a context of rapid expansion of activities and operations, requiring the Logistician to build local staff capacity and manage the base effectively. The first few months will focus on understanding program team demands, initiating the expansion of the guest house/office to accommodate a growing team, and addressing security constraints in a high-risk environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistician's duties include overseeing logistics management at the base, ensuring compliance with all relevant procedures, and organizing logistical support for various programs. They are responsible for the procurement of supplies, storage management, and ensuring that all logistics operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The Logistician must also assist in the implementation of safety protocols, monitor logistics staff performance, and provide training and support to enhance their skills. Additionally, they will need to adapt to the rapidly changing environment and address challenges related to base management and the expansion of operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field such as business or international relations. They should have at least three years of experience working with humanitarian NGOs, with a minimum of two years in a similar logistics position. Strong technical skills in procurement, supplies, and storage in conflict areas are essential, along with experience in supporting base scale-up in volatile contexts and team management.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background should provide the necessary knowledge and skills to manage logistics effectively in a humanitarian context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least two years in a logistics role. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in challenging environments and managing logistics operations effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered a strong asset, enhancing communication and operational effectiveness in the region.

  • The role is based in Zalingei, Sudan, which is classified as a high-risk environment with strict security protocols. The compensation package includes a starting salary of EUR 2310 gross per month, a monthly per diem of USD 750, and coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. Expatriates will also receive an insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions include a guest house with basic amenities, and the work environment may limit social interactions due to security constraints.
