Job Overview: The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer position at WFP focuses on supporting the supply chain capacity strengthening portfolio, particularly in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. The officer will play a crucial role in planning and coordinating various capacity strengthening activities, ensuring that objectives are met efficiently and effectively. This role is vital in enhancing the operational capabilities of WFP in the Caribbean region, particularly in collaboration with national and regional partners. The officer will also be involved in deploying to emergency situations, contributing to logistics plans, and ensuring compliance with WFP standards. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to improving local logistics operations to better serve affected populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Logistics Officer will report to the Supply Chain Officer and will be responsible for a range of activities, including:
Supporting and coordinating the planning, execution, and evaluation of capacity strengthening initiatives in collaboration with various partners.
Operationalizing the supply chain assessment navigator framework and other initiatives related to supply chain planning and optimization.
Deploying to emergency situations to provide leadership and support in logistics operations.
Developing logistics plans and processes in compliance with WFP policies.
Managing logistics projects and operational activities to ensure effective delivery of food assistance.
Collecting and analyzing data to recommend actions for improving local logistics performance.
Conducting analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis and budget reviews to optimize resource use.
Contributing to operational pipeline planning and managing supply chain aspects, including procurement and shipping.
Providing technical support to other units and guiding junior staff. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training is acceptable. Candidates should have experience in humanitarian or civil protection sectors, with a focus on supply chain strategy development and disaster preparedness. A proven track record of progressively responsible experience in supply chain management, including design, budgeting, and monitoring, is essential. Familiarity with transport and freight market conditions, customs clearance, procurement processes, and warehouse management is also required. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills are necessary for success in this role.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree is preferred, particularly in fields related to supply chain management, logistics, or business administration. A first university degree combined with relevant work experience may also be acceptable. Continuous professional development through training and courses related to supply chain management is highly valued.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in roles related to supply chain management. This includes experience in developing and delivering supply chain strategies, managing logistics operations, and coordinating emergency responses. Previous roles should demonstrate progressively responsible experience, ideally within WFP or similar organizations, focusing on logistics and supply chain management.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in French or Arabic is considered an advantage, depending on the duty station. Strong communication skills in these languages will enhance the candidate's ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a short-term, full-time role under a Service Contract Level 9 (SC 9) for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and operational needs. The duty station is Kingston, Jamaica, and the selected candidate may be required to travel regionally and internationally to support missions and emergency responses. The position offers a competitive salary starting at JMD 503,502.84 per month, along with benefits such as annual leave, health insurance, and professional development opportunities.
