Job Overview:
The Consultant – Coordination Support (NCW) will play a crucial role in supporting the National Commission on Women in Sri Lanka, particularly in operationalizing its mandate under the Women Empowerment Act No. 37 of 202
  • This position requires the consultant to provide dedicated administrative, coordination, and logistical support to ensure the effective functioning of the Commission. The consultant will be responsible for organizing and supporting meetings, consultations, and stakeholder engagements, managing documentation and correspondence, and facilitating communication with various stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners. The role is essential for strengthening internal coordination, information flow, and overall operational efficiency of the Commission in advancing women's empowerment in Sri Lanka. The consultant is expected to work full-time from June 15, 2026, to December 15, 2026, primarily based at the office of the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director of the National Commission on Women in Colombo, with potential travel to field locations as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide coordination and administrative support to the Commission, including managing schedules, calendars, and official engagements, arranging meetings and consultations, and liaising with stakeholders.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings and stakeholder engagement, including preparing documentation, organizing meetings, and following up on action points.
  • Provide documentation, reporting, and information management support by drafting and maintaining records related to the Commission's activities.
  • Provide operational and administrative support, including procurement processes, travel arrangements, and maintaining office supplies.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, ensuring timely completion of tasks as per the established timeline.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, with a Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related fields being an asset. A postgraduate or professional qualification in relevant fields is considered an added advantage. Candidates should possess strong administrative skills, knowledge of administrative rules and regulations, and the ability to manage confidential information. Proficiency in using computer applications and software packages such as Microsoft Office is required, along with excellent communication skills in English and local languages (Sinhala and/or Tamil).

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. A Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field is preferred, while a postgraduate or professional qualification in relevant fields is considered an added advantage. This educational background will equip the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support the National Commission on Women in its mandate.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in administrative, coordination, or program roles, including experience in HR, procurement, or logistics support services. Previous experience engaging with government, UN agencies, civil society, and development stakeholders in Sri Lanka is preferred. Familiarity with government administrative, financial, and procurement procedures is essential for this role, as it will involve navigating these processes to support the Commission's operations effectively.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with fluency in local languages, specifically Sinhala and/or Tamil. This linguistic capability is crucial for effective communication with various stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners, ensuring that the consultant can fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

  • The consultant will primarily work at the office of the Executive Director of the National Commission on Women in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and may be required to travel to field locations as necessary. Payments for the consultancy will be based on the completion of tasks, with reimbursement for mobile and internet bills, printing, stationery, and travel costs processed separately upon prior approval from UN Women. All information related to this assignment will remain the property of UN Women, and the consultant is expected to adhere to UN Women’s policies and procedures, including a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.
