Job Overview: The IDB Country Office in Trinidad and Tobago is seeking an active graduate student to join as an intern under the Consultant modality. This internship is a paid opportunity designed for university students from member countries to gain insights into development work and corporate management within the Bank. Interns will acquire professional-level work experience through on-the-job learning, which includes providing research support on economic, social, and political issues, monitoring developments in these areas, and preparing analytical reports. The role is ideal for students looking to enhance their understanding of the economic landscape while contributing to meaningful projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will be responsible for providing research support to the Country Economist, which includes monitoring social, political, and economic developments. You will prepare weekly reports summarizing key trends and monthly reports that analyze these developments in detail. Additionally, you will collect and analyze data on key economic indicators, maintain and update databases of economic variables, and support the creation of data visualizations for various reports and presentations. This role requires a proactive approach to research and analysis, ensuring that the information provided is accurate and relevant to ongoing projects.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be active graduate students enrolled in a relevant program such as Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or a related discipline at an accredited university. The expected graduation date must be after the internship concludes. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of another official language of the Bank (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) is advantageous. Candidates should possess strong research and analytical skills, technical writing abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a graduate (master's) program as of the internship's starting date. It is essential that at least 50% of the coursework is completed by the time of application. Academic transcripts and a university letter certifying student status must be submitted, with transcripts issued within the last three months. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted initially, but official transcripts will be required if the candidate progresses in the application process.
Experience: This internship is targeted at first-time participants in the IDB Group's Internship Program. Candidates should not have previous experience as a staff member, contractor, or in any other capacity with the IDB or IDB Invest.
