Job Overview: The Gender Equality, Environment and Communication Consultant will work within the framework of the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) in collaboration with the Italian government. The consultant will be responsible for enhancing the visibility of WWAP activities and publications, particularly in the context of gender and water issues. This role involves managing social media communications, developing content for the WWAP website, and supporting the production of knowledge materials related to gender-responsive water management. The consultant will also assist in organizing events focused on gender and water, ensuring effective communication and documentation of these events. The position requires a proactive approach to communication and a strong understanding of gender issues in the context of water management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a variety of duties including:
Managing WWAP's social media presence to enhance visibility and engagement, particularly through the development of unique content and interaction with followers.
Supporting generic communication efforts to maintain awareness of WWAP activities, including reporting on project implementation and creating communication materials.
Assisting in the development and updating of the WWAP water and gender webpage, including drafting articles for the UNESCO website.
Providing support for knowledge production and capacity development, including the creation of training materials and publications related to GEF projects.
Organizing gender and water events, both online and in-person, which includes drafting agendas, liaising with partners, and preparing post-event reports.
Carrying out ad-hoc tasks related to document preparation, reporting, and maintaining databases of trainings and publications.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university master's degree in a relevant field such as environment, hydrology, or related natural sciences, or social sciences. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in freshwater and gender-related activities, with a focus on gender-responsive indicators. Strong IT skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage in participatory processes.
Educational Background: A master's degree in a relevant field is required for this position. This could include disciplines such as environmental science, hydrology, social sciences, or other related fields that provide a strong foundation for understanding the intersection of gender and water management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in areas related to freshwater management and gender equality. Experience in capacity development activities, particularly those that focus on social inclusion and gender-responsive data, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering results in similar roles.
