Job Overview: The Communications and Advocacy Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) by developing and implementing communication and advocacy strategies. This position involves creating compelling content that highlights the impact of WPHF programs and the voices of women beneficiaries. The consultant will be responsible for producing multimedia assets, social media content, and communication products that effectively convey key messages to various stakeholders, including donors and the public. Additionally, the consultant will train WPHF and partner staff on effective communication techniques, ensuring that the organization’s advocacy priorities are well-represented across digital platforms. The role requires a strong understanding of women, peace, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues, as well as the ability to engage with diverse audiences through storytelling and strategic communication.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Supporting the development and implementation of the WPHF Communications and Advocacy Strategy, including conducting stakeholder and audience analyses.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies and preparing reports on outcomes.
Developing and maintaining relationships with key media partners to enhance visibility for WPHF initiatives.
Identifying and creating compelling human-interest stories and case studies that showcase the impact of WPHF programs.
Producing engaging multimedia content, including video scripts and infographics, to highlight advocacy priorities.
Documenting key events and activities related to WPHF programs and donor recognition.
Designing and delivering workshops to enhance communication skills among WPHF personnel and partners.
Ensuring compliance with branding standards for WPHF and donor visibility at project sites.
Gathering high-quality communication products for field reporting, including photos and consent documentation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in international relations, development, women's rights, social sciences, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. The consultant should have a strong background in communications, public advocacy, and media outreach, with at least two years of experience at the international level. Experience working with local civil society organizations in conflict and crisis contexts is essential, along with a proven track record of engaging with intergovernmental institutions and managing advocacy initiatives.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field is required for this position. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree may be considered if they have additional qualifying experience. The educational background should ideally include studies in international relations, development, women's rights, social sciences, communications, or journalism, which are directly applicable to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of experience in communications, public advocacy, press relations, and social media engagement at the international level. Candidates should have experience working with local civil society organizations, particularly in contexts of conflict and crisis. Additionally, experience in managing relationships with communications teams in intergovernmental organizations, such as UN agencies and INGOs, is necessary. Preferred candidates will have experience in producing and curating digital media content and leading advocacy initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in one other UN language, such as French, Spanish, or Arabic, is desirable and would enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is home-based, but travel may be required as relevant to the role.
