Job Overview: The Director of Global Communications and Advocacy at UNICEF plays a pivotal role in shaping and leading the organization's global communications and advocacy strategies. This position is responsible for enhancing UNICEF's global positioning as a key actor in promoting child rights and delivering results for children. The Director will work closely with senior management to set policy directions and implement communication and advocacy priorities that align with UNICEF's mission. The role requires a politically sophisticated communicator who can navigate complex global dynamics and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Director will oversee the strategic development of UNICEF's brand positioning and ensure that advocacy and communications efforts support effective fundraising and partnerships, as well as program delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advise the Executive Director and senior management on global positioning of children's issues and child rights through effective communications and advocacy.
Lead the development and implementation of a global communication and advocacy strategy with clear priorities.
Coordinate with various divisions to maximize communication, advocacy, and resource mobilization efforts.
Act as the organization's senior spokesperson and manage reputational risks.
Oversee the Division of Global Communications and Advocacy, ensuring quality assurance and management accountability for global initiatives.
Establish global best standards in communication and advocacy and drive coordination across UNICEF's decentralized ecosystem.
Identify and develop partnerships with international foundations and institutions to advocate for child rights.
Direct and manage resources within the Division in accordance with relevant policies and standards.

Monitor and strengthen UNICEF's global communication and advocacy efforts against key results.
At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, strategic communications, or international relations, with at least five years in a leadership position in a large multicultural institution.
Proven experience in building diverse coalitions and innovative partnerships to raise awareness on child rights.
Experience in leading large teams across global locations with a track record of effective delegation and team elevation.
Familiarity with UNICEF's work and developing country experience is a major asset.
Expertise in managing and mitigating misinformation in the contemporary information environment is required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree in journalism, communication, international relations, or a related field. A first-level degree in a relevant field may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree, provided the candidate has an additional two years of relevant experience. Training in mass media and interpersonal communication is beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, strategic communications, or international relations. This includes a minimum of five years in a leadership role within a large multicultural institution. Experience in leading strategic communication programs in a rapidly changing environment is essential, along with a proven ability to set a global influencing agenda and lead campaigns effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Fluency in French is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in diverse contexts and with various stakeholders.
