Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing reliable and safe driving services by transporting UNFPA staff, officials, partners, and visitors within Kandahar and other approved locations.
  • Delivering and collecting mail, documents, supplies, and other items as required.
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitating transport arrangements when necessary.
  • Ensuring timely arrival for meetings while strictly adhering to security protocols.
  • Ensuring vehicle safety and compliance with Security Risk Management (SRM) requirements and Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS).
  • Keeping abreast of road, traffic, weather, and security conditions to ensure safe travel.
  • Maintaining daily vehicle logs accurately and consistently, conducting routine checks on the vehicle, and performing minor repairs.
  • Coordinating major repairs and servicing with authorized service providers.
  • Assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports. 1
  • Supporting office operations by assisting with basic administrative tasks, distributing documents and supplies, and translating for official passengers when necessary. 1
  • Taking proper action in case of an accident, in line with UNFPA regulations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid Afghan driver’s license and have at least two years of work experience as a Driver with an international organization, NGO, embassy, or UN agency. A safe driving record is essential, along with knowledge of local roads, routes, and security conditions in Kandahar and surrounding provinces. Familiarity with defensive driving techniques and basic skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance are required. Knowledge of UN security procedures is considered an asset, and experience operating in humanitarian or high-risk environments is desirable.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of Secondary Level Education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and tasks associated with the role of a Driver in a complex operational environment.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience as a Driver, specifically with international organizations, NGOs, embassies, or UN agencies. This experience should demonstrate a safe driving record and familiarity with the operational challenges faced in high-risk environments.

Languages:
Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is crucial in the local context. Additionally, a basic knowledge of English is desirable, which can facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
