Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in the operational coordination of the Technical Clusters under the UN Task Force on Critical Energy Transition Minerals (CETMs). This position involves secretariat functions, inter-agency coordination, and resource mobilization to support the implementation of actionable recommendations. The consultant will be responsible for conducting rapid assessments on value addition and diversification within CETM value chains in Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role requires a strong analytical background and the ability to engage with experts and stakeholders effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will carry out a variety of analytical, technical, and operational tasks, including:
Establishing and maintaining Networks of Experts on Critical Energy Transition Minerals, ensuring alignment with agreed objectives.
Coordinating the identification and engagement of experts, preparing necessary background materials, and organizing technical consultations.
Analyzing and synthesizing technical inputs from network experts for use in background notes and issue briefs.
Maintaining operational documentation related to the network, including expert rosters and records of activities.
Facilitating the organization of meetings, webinars, and discussions, including agenda preparation and follow-up documentation.
Monitoring network operations against established parameters and preparing technical progress notes.
Preparing analytical inputs for the implementation of the two projects focused on value addition and diversification in Southern Africa.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced University Degree or a Master's in Economics, Finance, International Relations, or related fields. A minimum of one year of working experience in economic research is required, along with experience in designing research studies and analyzing economic data. Additionally, candidates should have experience in writing economic reports and conducting assessments of value addition and diversification opportunities within commodities value chains. Experience in consultations with private sector representatives is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced University Degree or a Master's in Economics, Finance, International Relations, or related areas is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to perform the required tasks effectively.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant working experience in economic research. Candidates should have a proven track record in designing research studies, analyzing economic data, and writing comprehensive economic reports. Experience in conducting assessments related to value addition and diversification within commodities value chains is highly desirable, as is experience in engaging with private sector representatives.
