Job Overview: As the ERS EO Applications Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the European Resilience from Space (ERS) programme, which was initiated to enhance European Earth Observation (EO) capabilities. This position involves reporting to the Head of the Enterprise Section within the Climate Action, Sustainability and Science Department. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the development and implementation of large-scale end-to-end services that demonstrate the value of EO-derived information for European security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security stakeholders. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including national and private-sector EO operators, to identify capability gaps and develop customized EO solutions. This role requires a strategic approach to managing resources, coordinating teams, and ensuring effective communication across departments to promote the benefits of EO for society.
Duties and Responsibilities: Your duties will include coordinating a team of technical experts to define and implement ERS services, establishing requirements for geoinformation products in collaboration with security stakeholders, and devising technical specifications for applications. You will also manage industrial procurements for service demonstrations, interface with the EOP Ground Segment and Mission Management Department, and contribute to ESA's communication efforts regarding EO results. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and managing health and safety risks within your area of responsibility, ensuring that all activities align with ESA's strategic objectives and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master's degree in a relevant field such as signal processing, electronic engineering, Earth science, computer science, or data science, along with at least 10 years of professional experience in EO security applications. A PhD is considered an asset. You should demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate a team effectively. A results-oriented mindset with the capacity to manage challenging situations proactively is essential. Experience working with diverse stakeholders in both the space and security sectors is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a master's degree in a relevant discipline, with a preference for candidates holding a PhD. The focus should be on fields that relate directly to Earth observation and security applications, ensuring that the candidate has a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience is required, particularly in the development of EO applications for security stakeholders. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with diverse stakeholders and managing complex projects within the space and security communities. International experience is highly valued, as is familiarity with the European and international security landscape.
Languages: Proficiency in English and French is mandatory, as these are the working languages of ESA. A good knowledge of one of these languages is required, while knowledge of another Member State language would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with a broader range of stakeholders.
