Job Overview: The Junior Protocol Officer position at CERN offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates passionate about International Relations to engage in a dynamic and fast-paced international environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the organization and management of protocol activities, particularly in relation to high-level visits linked to the FCC project. The role is expected to evolve significantly due to the anticipated increase in institutional interest and protocol visits during the upcoming Long Shutdown 3 of the CERN accelerators, which will enhance the visibility and importance of the Protocol Office's work.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Junior Protocol Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Chief of Protocol. Key responsibilities include:
Organizing and coordinating protocol visits related to the FCC project, both in Switzerland and France.
Participating in the preparation and execution of high-level international visits organized by the Protocol Office.
Preparing detailed visit programs and ensuring logistical coordination for official visits.
Liaising with relevant CERN services and stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of visit programs.
Monitoring the operational follow-up of visit programs and addressing any issues that arise.
Accompanying delegations as required, ensuring compliance with schedules and managing unforeseen situations.
Contributing to the administrative and logistical activities of the Protocol Service, gaining valuable insights into CERN's protocol practices and procedures.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong connection to the local region, particularly knowledge of institutional stakeholders in the Canton of Geneva and Haute-Savoie. Previous experience in protocol-related activities, institutional relations, or high-level event organization is advantageous. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong organizational and coordination skills, the ability to work methodically while remaining flexible, and the capacity to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to interact effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting.
Educational Background: Applicants must have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in International Relations or a related field. The highest educational qualification required is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Candidates without a university degree or those holding a PhD are not eligible for this position.
