Job Overview:
The Expert UN Volunteer (UNV) position is crucial for overseeing a perception monitoring exercise aimed at assessing stakeholders' perceptions regarding various initiatives launched under the Ditwah response of UNFPA. This role involves managing a team of data collectors who will gather insights from recipients of provisions, training, health facilities, and other services. The Expert UNV will ensure that data collection adheres to ethical standards and research protocols while also focusing on the quality and relevance of the programming. The position requires a commitment to high-quality data collection methodologies and reporting, which will ultimately support the Country Office (CO) and Implementing Partners (IPs) in making evidence-based adjustments to their programs. The Expert UNV will coordinate and supervise the data collection process, ensuring that it meets the specific needs of the study and aligns with UNFPA's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Expert UNV will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Participating in training sessions for data collectors on research ethics and data collection methodologies.
  • Maintaining accurate records of participants, interview dates, and locations while safeguarding the confidentiality and anonymity of all participants and their data.
  • Storing and organizing all collected data securely to ensure its integrity.
  • Taking notes during interviews and focus group discussions, and accurately transcribing audio recordings into English in a timely manner.
  • Providing regular updates to the main consultants regarding progress and any challenges encountered during the data collection process.
  • Adhering to strict ethical guidelines, ensuring informed consent, confidentiality, and anonymity of all participants involved in the study.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their approach to work, as well as a commitment to professionalism. The role requires individuals who can effectively plan and organize their tasks while being accountable for their actions. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of ethical research practices and data collection methodologies.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position. Candidates should ideally hold a degree in social sciences, public health, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in research methodologies or data analysis would be advantageous and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in data collection, research, or monitoring and evaluation, particularly in the context of health or social programs. Experience working with diverse communities and understanding the cultural sensitivities involved in data collection is highly desirable. Familiarity with ethical guidelines in research and experience in managing teams would also be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Sinhala and Tamil is mandatory, as the data collection will be conducted in these languages. Proficiency in English is also required for transcribing and reporting purposes. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the communities being served.

Additional Notes:

The role may involve working in various districts of Sri Lanka, including Badulla, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.
