Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNHCR involves not only driving official vehicles but also maintaining and ensuring the operational readiness of these vehicles. The incumbent will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel, delivering documents, and facilitating customs and immigration formalities. The Driver will also engage in minor vehicle maintenance and repairs, ensuring that all vehicles are compliant with safety standards. The Driver will need to maintain a log of trips and vehicle usage, and will be expected to manage risks associated with transportation in the operational context of the Dominican Republic, which may include navigating challenging traffic conditions and adhering to safety regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's duties include: driving UNHCR vehicles for transporting authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents, meeting official personnel at airports, performing daily maintenance checks on vehicles, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, performing minor repairs, logging official trips and vehicle usage, following security guidance, ensuring valid documentation for passengers and cargo, supporting risk management, and performing other related duties as required. The Driver must also be prepared for travel to remote areas and adapt to changing schedules, demonstrating professionalism and reliability, especially in sensitive situations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential functional skills include basic vehicle mechanical skills and adherence to driving regulations. The position requires accountability, communication skills, organizational awareness, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning. Candidates should demonstrate client and results orientation, technological awareness, analytical thinking, and planning and organizing abilities.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Candidates must have relevant driving licenses and certifications, which are essential for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in driving and vehicle maintenance. Experience in a similar role within an international organization or in a humanitarian context is desirable but not mandatory.

Languages:
Mandatory languages for this position include English and Spanish, both at a B2 level. Knowledge of the local language is also beneficial for effective communication in the Dominican Republic.

This position is a national role offered under a fixed-term contract for an initial period of one year. Candidates must be nationals of the Dominican Republic or non-Dominican applicants who reside in the country with valid work and residency permits.
