Job Overview: The SDG Data and Coordination Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the UN Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) in its mission to enhance strategic planning and development programming across Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten. This position requires a proactive approach to providing accurate and actionable research outputs that will inform the UN Country Team (UNCT) in their strategic planning efforts. The consultant will facilitate effective communication and coordination among various UN agencies, government partners, and development stakeholders, ensuring that joint initiatives are effectively implemented and resources are mobilized efficiently. The consultant will also be responsible for preparing and disseminating analytical reports and policy briefs that track progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development objectives. Additionally, the consultant will support the organization of high-level meetings and strategic dialogues, contributing to the development and implementation of Country Implementation Plans and enhancing stakeholder engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The SDG Data and Coordination Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Collaborating closely with UN agency staff in Aruba to ensure effective linkages between country-level efforts and national coordination mechanisms.
Supporting the preparation of national SDG reports in collaboration with SDG focal points in Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten.
Maintaining effective dialogue with national counterparts to strengthen UN engagement in national development processes.
Identifying opportunities for collaboration in support of national strategic priorities.
Conducting research and analysis on economic and development issues relevant to the three countries.
Preparing concise analytical reports and policy briefs to inform UNCT programming.
Promoting knowledge sharing within the UN system and with external stakeholders.
Contributing to the strategic positioning of the RC/UNCT through communication initiatives.
Organizing high-level coordination meetings and partnership-building initiatives. 1
Maintaining databases on economic indicators and funding flows. 1
Performing other tasks as assigned to advance the RCO’s objectives in the Dutch Caribbean context.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, information management, statistics, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to research and data initiatives, particularly in the context of sustainable development goals (SDGs), is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as business or public administration, information management, statistics, sustainable development, social sciences, or education. Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Dutch is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration with local stakeholders in Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, given the multilingual context of the UN.
