Job Overview:
The Communication and Media Adviser for the LACRMD Coalition will play a crucial role in leading the design and implementation of the Coalition’s communications and media strategy. This position requires close coordination with Coalition members, particularly their communications teams, to develop evidence-based communications products that are grounded in primary data and analyses. The adviser will oversee the Coalition’s digital platforms, including the website and LinkedIn account, ensuring that messaging is coherent and aligned with the Coalition’s advocacy priorities. The role is essential in enhancing the visibility of humanitarian and protection crises in Latin America and the Caribbean, and it demands a strategic approach to communications that supports advocacy objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication and Media Adviser will be responsible for supporting the development, coordination, and implementation of the Coalition’s communications strategy and workplan. This includes ensuring that all communications products are evidence-based and approved by the Steering Committee. The adviser will produce and disseminate public communications products such as websites, social media content, newsletters, and press releases to strengthen the Coalition’s visibility. Additionally, the role involves analyzing secondary data and reports from Coalition members to develop strategic communications on forced displacement and humanitarian needs. The adviser will provide communications analysis and strategic advice to the Coalition Coordinator and Steering Committee, ensuring message coherence. The position also requires the production of a wide range of communications products, including briefing notes, articles, key messages, and multimedia resources for decision-makers and partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in journalism, law, social sciences, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a communications/media adviser or journalist is required, preferably in development, humanitarian crises, or foreign affairs. The ideal candidate should have experience working with NGO program data to develop advocacy and media products for diverse audiences. Proficiency in graphic design tools (Adobe Suite, Canva) and web development tools (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is essential. Strong media judgment and the ability to produce and edit communications products in fast-paced environments are also required. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of the humanitarian and media landscape in Latin America and possess strong relationship-building skills with Coalition members and external counterparts.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in journalism, law, social sciences, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial as it provides the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively communicate complex humanitarian issues and engage with diverse audiences.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications or media advisory roles, particularly in contexts related to development, humanitarian crises, or foreign affairs. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with NGO program data and evidence to create impactful advocacy and media products.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish are mandatory, along with advanced proficiency in English. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and partners.
