This position focuses on implementing interventions that not only help communities produce sufficient food but also connect them to higher-value markets to boost household income and savings. The officer will be responsible for coordinating technical efforts, supporting quality programming, and ensuring effective partnerships across various sectors. The role requires a proactive approach to knowledge management, monitoring, and evaluation, particularly in relation to resilience and climate change initiatives. The officer will also be involved in compiling donor reports and ensuring that the program funds are utilized optimally, while supporting the overall objectives of UNICEF's resilience and climate change efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main duties and responsibilities of the Resilience and Climate Change Programme Officer include:
Serving as the technical coordination focal point for the Joint Resilience Programme, ensuring effective communication between technical teams and the Resilience Unit.
Supporting the quality of resilience and climate change programming through data collection and analysis to identify challenges and best practices.
Collaborating with various sections to implement integrated solutions throughout the program cycle.
Assisting the Resilience Coordinator and Climate Specialist in maintaining partnerships and coordinating UNICEF's work across sectors.
Supporting knowledge management and evaluation efforts related to resilience approaches, including upcoming impact evaluations.
Compiling and reviewing donor reports in accordance with agreements.
Monitoring expenditure patterns to ensure compliance with approved budgets.
Participating in technical working groups and joint program meetings to facilitate collaboration with UN agencies and government partners.
Carrying out additional duties as required by the Resilience Specialist.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Science, International Relations, Community Development, or related fields. Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in coordination, grants management, and project management. Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build effective networks across various organizational levels and sectors. Skills in monitoring and evaluation, as well as reporting, are also necessary for this role.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in relevant fields such as Social Science, International Relations, or Community Development. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the role and the socio-political context in which UNICEF operates.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience is required. This experience should include coordination, grants management, and project management, with a strong emphasis on reporting and monitoring. Familiarity with the socio-political context of Somalia and experience in fragile settings or humanitarian contexts will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered desirable and can enhance a candidate's profile.
