Job Overview: The Regional Advisor position is crucial for supporting MSF's operational and strategic objectives in West and Central Africa. Reporting to the Head of MSF Access West & Central Africa hub, the Regional Advisor will work closely with the MSF Access Head of Policy and Head of Analysis to develop comprehensive regional context analyses, stakeholder engagement strategies, and advocacy initiatives. The role is designed to influence policies and practices related to access to essential medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, and medical technologies. The Regional Advisor will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including governments, regional institutions, donors, civil society, and pharmaceutical companies, to ensure that MSF's objectives are met effectively across the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Regional Advisor will have a variety of responsibilities, including monitoring and analyzing policies, regulations, markets, and stakeholders that impact access to health products in the region. They will identify trends, risks, and advocacy opportunities at both regional and country levels. The advisor will contribute to the design and implementation of advocacy strategies that align with MSF Access's global and regional priorities. They will contextualize global MSF Access objectives at the regional level, ensuring that regional perspectives inform global strategies. Additionally, the Regional Advisor will develop and maintain relationships with key regional and national stakeholders, represent MSF Access in relevant health forums, and support MSF operational teams in understanding medical-political and regulatory barriers. They will also manage short-term consultants or researchers for specific assignments related to access priorities, ensuring that all activities align with MSF's operational priorities and are coordinated with country teams and regional humanitarian representation functions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of public health, access to medicines, and advocacy strategies. They should have excellent analytical skills, the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, and a proven track record in policy influence. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to MSF's humanitarian principles and values.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in public health, advocacy, or humanitarian work, particularly in the context of access to medicines and health products. Experience working in West and Central Africa or similar contexts is highly desirable, as is familiarity with MSF's operational environment and challenges.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is mandatory, as these are the primary languages of communication in the region. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is a permanent contract with a full-time commitment. The starting date is as soon as possible, and the compensation and benefits will be in accordance with MSF practices and the applicable package for the entity establishing the contract. The position level is classified as 16 according to the HAY grading system.
