Job Overview: The Driver position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This role involves not only driving but also providing basic assistance with local language translation, ensuring compliance with UN safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security regulations, and maintaining the vehicle in optimal condition. The Driver will be responsible for meeting official personnel at entry points, assisting with customs formalities, and ensuring that all necessary travel authorizations and supplies are available. The position requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and reporting, as well as the ability to perform basic office tasks when not driving. The Driver will play a key role in supporting the administrative functions of the office while ensuring that transportation needs are met effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide safe transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to UN safety and security rules.
Assist with translation of basic conversations from/to the local language during transportation.
Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, assisting with visa and customs formalities.
Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks and report daily on mechanical status to the supervisor.
Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
Report any mechanical issues to the supervisor promptly.
Follow established rules for field deliveries and report any accidents or problems immediately.
Perform basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required.
Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary school education and possess formal driver training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate the assigned vehicle. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with the ability to follow local rules and regulations. Candidates should also have a good understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. Candidates must also have formal driver training and a valid driver’s license to operate the assigned vehicle, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of work experience as a Driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in both spoken and written English and Bangla is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a Service Contract (Grade SC2) with a duration of 12 months. The duty station is WFP Bangladesh, with potential assignments in various locations including Dhaka, Cox's Bazar, Khulna, Rangamati, Rangpur, Sylhet, and Chittagong.
