Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Registration Assistant include: conducting registration interviews in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs) and registration standards; responding to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements; maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and data related to all individual registration cases; identifying persons with specific needs and ensuring timely referral to protection follow-up as required; collaborating with protection staff and/or partners in the delivery of assistance and programming, including the provision of identity and entitlement documentation; acting as an interpreter and translator when needed; referring cases to other units within the office and to implementing partners as necessary; supporting the identification and management of risks and seeking to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Registration Assistant position include a high school diploma or equivalent, with one year of relevant experience. Candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher are also eligible. Essential skills include computer literacy and familiarity with UNHCR registration tools such as ProGres V4, BIMS, Digital Gateway, and E-file. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of UNHCR's protection principles and experience in asylum procedures in Iraq, particularly in relation to national and international laws governing refugees. Experience with the Administrative Instructions for Regulating the Affairs of Asylum Seekers in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is also highly desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, statistics, mathematics, or information technology is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with certifications in these areas will have an advantage in the selection process.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience in a similar role. Experience working with UNHCR proGres software is desirable but not essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of registration processes and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, particularly in contexts involving vulnerable populations such as refugees and asylum seekers.
