Job Overview: The Shelter & WASH Officer plays a crucial role in the implementation of Shelter and WASH programs in Beirut and Mount Lebanon. This position involves conducting technical and social assessments, managing a team, and ensuring community engagement. The officer will be responsible for coordinating with other programs, conducting eligibility assessments, and submitting reports. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Shelter & WASH Officer include:
Ensuring adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
Implementing the Shelter & WASH project portfolio according to the action plan.
Facilitating and monitoring emergency response activities.
Preparing and developing status reports as required by management.
Involving and informing communities and community leaders about project activities.
Breaking down annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans.
Ensuring proper documentation and filing of project-related documents.
Targeting beneficiaries most in need and exploring new ways to assist.
Mobilizing communities for project modalities, including construction activities. 1
Ensuring compliance with protection mainstreaming guidelines and reporting any breaches. 1
Leading technical and social assessments for various programs, including cash for rent and housing rehabilitation. 1
Preparing cooperation agreements with landlords and managing payment requests. 1
Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
Fluency in both English and Arabic, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of refugee contexts, particularly in informal and urban settlements.
Familiarity with emergency response activities and best practices in humanitarian assistance.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of shelter and WASH projects and for effectively managing the associated responsibilities.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a humanitarian or recovery context. This experience should encompass both technical roles and community-facing responsibilities, particularly in the areas of shelter and water, sanitation, and hygiene projects. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of the challenges faced in these contexts and possess the skills necessary to navigate them effectively.
