Job Overview: The Area Manager for Beni will be responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing projects within the designated intervention area. This includes managing the ATLAS Logistics project and two additional projects focused on physical rehabilitation and mental health support. The Area Manager will work under the supervision of the Program Director and will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of projects, fostering team collaboration, and maintaining operational standards. The position requires a strategic mindset to contribute to the operational strategy in the Beni/Grand North area, identifying funding opportunities, and ensuring compliance with HI's institutional policies. The Area Manager will also represent HI to local authorities and coordinate with humanitarian partners to enhance the organization's influence and operational effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Team Management: Directly supervise project managers for rehabilitation and mental health projects, supporting the deployment of ATLAS activities in the area. Structure and lead a multidisciplinary team to promote coordination and synergy among operational, technical, and support staff.
Strategic Contribution: Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of the operational strategy in the Beni/Grand North area. Identify funding opportunities aligned with local priorities in humanitarian logistics, health, and economic inclusion.
Standards and Compliance: Ensure adherence to HI's reference frameworks and institutional policies.
Operational Implementation: Represent HI to local administrative, health, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security authorities, as well as humanitarian coordination mechanisms in the Grand North.
Influence: Develop HI's external influence through participation in forums, operational alliances, and strategic representation at events and in the media.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have at least 4 years of project management experience in a similar role within HI or another NGO. They should possess strong skills in defining and implementing intervention strategies, ensuring effective project monitoring and coordination, and managing teams. Experience in security management is also essential, along with a collaborative approach to working in multidisciplinary teams.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically in fields related to humanitarian aid, project management, or social sciences. Advanced degrees may be preferred, depending on the specific requirements of the organization and the complexity of the projects managed.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of experience in project management, particularly in humanitarian contexts. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing projects, leading teams, and navigating complex operational environments. Experience in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or similar contexts is highly advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, given the operational context in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Proficiency in English is considered a valuable asset, enhancing communication with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Beni, with regular travel to intervention areas in the Grand North, including Butembo and Lubero. The living conditions in Beni are generally stable, allowing for continuous humanitarian operations. The Area Manager will play a key role in ensuring operational security and maintaining humanitarian access. The contract is for 12 months, ideally starting on June 1, 2026, and includes comprehensive social coverage tailored to individual needs. The salary starts at €2970 gross per month, depending on professional experience, with additional benefits such as a monthly per diem, hardship allowance, paid leave, and collective housing provided by HI.
