Job Overview: The UN Youth Volunteer will play a vital role in supporting the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in Sri Lanka, specifically in the Colombo and Gampaha districts. This position focuses on addressing the backlog of data awaiting entry into the e-Population Registry System. The volunteer's contributions are essential for ensuring that delayed records are accurately captured, updated, and integrated, which in turn strengthens the reliability and completeness of population data. The role involves assisting in the organization and sorting of large volumes of records, ensuring that all data is accurate, complete, and compliant with established protocols. The Data Entry Assistant will work under the supervision of the Team LeadHealth Systems at WHO Sri Lanka Country Office and the Registrar General at the RGD, facilitating the timely processing of data entry tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Data Entry Assistant include:
Entering large volumes of birth registration data into the e-Population Registry System with a high degree of accuracy.
Ensuring that all records are complete and compliant with established data-entry protocols.
Coordinating regularly with officers of the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) at both the Head Office and district levels to ensure the timely processing and completion of all pending data-entry tasks.
Assisting in organizing and sorting large volumes of records to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Supporting the overall objectives of the RGD in improving the population data management system.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong technical expertise in data entry and management. They should demonstrate a positive attitude towards work, effective teamwork skills, and excellent communication abilities. Additionally, respect for and promotion of individual and cultural differences are essential values for this role.
Educational Background: A background in information technology, data management, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of data entry processes and protocols, as well as familiarity with database systems.
Experience: While specific years of experience may not be required, candidates should have some prior experience in data entry or administrative support roles. Familiarity with population data management systems or similar environments is advantageous.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the organization. Knowledge of Sinhala or Tamil would be considered an asset, as these are widely spoken languages in Sri Lanka.
Additional Notes: This is a National UN Community Volunteer assignment, meaning that the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and other living essentials. The position may not have a specified contract duration, but it is typically aligned with the needs of the RGD and the WHO's operational requirements. The role is expected to be full-time, and volunteers may receive certain benefits as outlined by the UN Volunteer program.
