Job Overview:
The Individual Fundraising – Fundraising Compliance Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that all individual fundraising initiatives comply with internal WFP and UN frameworks as well as industry best practices. This position is essential for maintaining compliance, operational efficiency, and coordinated governance as WFP expands into new markets and digital channels. The specialist will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement governance and compliance frameworks, secure internal approvals, support risk mitigation, and ensure that donor engagement activities align with relevant legal, ethical, and data protection standards. The role is vital for enabling rapid, compliant expansion across priority markets and high-potential fundraising channels, ensuring that operational foundations scale at the same pace as program ambitions, thus unlocking growth and supporting accelerated market entry and channel development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fundraising Compliance Specialist will be responsible for several key areas:
  • Compliance Advisory & Internal Coordination: Coordinate with the Legal Office, Global Privacy Office, and Risk teams to obtain required internal advice and ensure adherence to internal policies. Maintain records and track outstanding compliance, ensuring timely follow-up. Conduct research on best practices for digital fundraising and international donor engagement.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with the Legal Office and Global Privacy Office to ensure fundraising priorities are supported and compliance risks are managed effectively.
  • Data Protection and Privacy Compliance Oversight: Serve as the divisional coordination point for identifying initiatives involving personal data and ensuring timely referrals for formal review.
  • Operational Compliance and Fundraising Initiatives Oversight: Drive contract management, ensuring alignment with internal policies and fundraising objectives.
  • Risk Management, Monitoring & Due Diligence: Identify, assess, and mitigate key risks associated with individual fundraising, embedding risk management practices within operations and aligning with the PSP Division’s risk register.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Law, International Relations, Political Science, or Business Administration/Management. A master’s degree is desirable but not mandatory. Additionally, candidates should have sufficient years of experience in Fundraising Operations, Legal, Compliance, or related fields, with a minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in Business Administration, Legal, or Compliance. Experience at the international level, particularly within a UN agency or humanitarian organization, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, ensuring coordinated and timely delivery across initiatives.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Law, International Relations, Political Science, or Business Administration/Management. While a master’s degree is not mandatory, it is considered an asset. The role requires a strong understanding of compliance, data protection, and risk management, as well as familiarity with international fundraising regulations and internal governance policies within international organizations or UN agencies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Business Administration, Legal, or Compliance. Candidates should have experience working at the international level, particularly within a UN agency or humanitarian organization, which is highly desirable. The role demands a mix of compliance expertise, operational knowledge, and cross-functional coordination skills to effectively manage fundraising activities and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Languages:
An excellent command of spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the organization's global mission.
