Job Overview:

The intern will work under the supervision of the Deputy Regional Representative and relevant Workstream Leads, contributing to the monitoring and analysis of human rights developments in Eastern and Southern Africa. The role involves conducting research, drafting reports, and preparing daily updates on the human rights situation in the region. The intern will also engage with stakeholders and assist in integrating human rights perspectives into national and regional policies. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of human rights and international relations while contributing to meaningful work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include monitoring and analyzing human rights developments, particularly focusing on economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as the rights of women and youth. The intern will research and draft internal and external notes and reports, prepare daily news updates, and support stakeholder engagement with UN human rights mechanisms. Additionally, the intern will assist in organizing workshops and seminars, participate in meetings and conferences, and take notes as required. The intern may also perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall mission of OHCHR.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree program or in a graduate school program related to law, human rights, international relations, public administration, political science, social sciences, or a related field. The internship does not require prior work experience, but applicants should possess skills and knowledge that will benefit the United Nations during their internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a relevant academic program, either at the undergraduate or graduate level. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required, and a Master's degree or higher is preferred. The educational background should be in fields related to human rights, law, international relations, or social sciences, providing a solid foundation for the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
No prior work experience is necessary to apply for this internship. However, candidates should demonstrate relevant training, education, or coursework that aligns with the mission of the United Nations and the specific duties of the internship.

Languages:
