Job Overview: The Software Engineer position at the World Bank Group is a critical role within the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU). This unit is dedicated to enabling the World Bank Group to fulfill its mission of eradicating extreme poverty and enhancing shared prosperity through the delivery of transformative information and technologies. The Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of internal IT applications across various technologies. This role requires a proactive approach to evaluating user needs and designing organization-specific applications that enhance internal operations. The Software Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams in an agile environment, focusing on continuous improvement and innovation to deliver value. The position also involves advanced-level research and analysis in the field of specialization, overseeing complex projects, and providing guidance and training to junior staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Software Engineer will execute a variety of responsibilities, including:
Systems Development: Designing and developing high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and enhance system performance. Monitoring system performance and scalability, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and adhering to security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and compliance standards throughout the software development lifecycle. Managing the integration of software components and supporting deployment in production environments.
Continuous Improvement: Evaluating and integrating new technologies to improve existing systems and processes, executing best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Supporting agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups, and partnering with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze product requirements, ensuring alignment with project goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred. Recommended certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate or AWS Certified Developer Associate, and SAFe Agile Software Engineering (ASE).
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline. A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable if accompanied by sufficient relevant experience, with a strong preference for candidates holding advanced degrees.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience for those with a Master’s degree, or 7 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience should include full-stack development proficiency, system performance and scalability expertise, and active participation in agile development methodologies. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of monitoring production systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and optimizing application performance.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages is considered a plus but is not explicitly required.
