Job Overview: This internship position is designed to support the implementation of protection and solution strategies and action plans that advance UNHCR's mandate in Bulgaria. The focus will be on integration, education, and socio-economic inclusion interventions and advocacy. The intern will engage in various activities, including research, monitoring, and providing technical support, depending on the operational priorities during the internship period. The role is crucial in contributing to the overall mission of UNHCR by addressing the needs of forcibly displaced and stateless individuals in Bulgaria.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for conducting desk reviews, research, and analysis on issues related to the rights of forcibly displaced and stateless people. They will monitor and collect data through site visits and interviews with displaced individuals or other stakeholders, as well as participate in community-based initiatives. The intern will assist in event management, providing logistical support, notetaking, and follow-up assignments. Additionally, they will support the development of AI tools that facilitate refugee integration and access to education, draft reports, and provide inputs as needed. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
Required Qualifications: To be eligible for this internship, candidates must be either recent graduates who have completed their studies within two years of applying or current students in a graduate or undergraduate program from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO. Candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to the work of UNHCR. Furthermore, candidates must not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR, which is 8 months for full-time and 12 months for part-time internships.
Educational Background: Candidates should have an educational background in political science, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, international relations, social work, pedagogy, or other relevant sectors. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the specific challenges faced by refugees and displaced persons.
Experience: While previous experience is not mandatory, it is advantageous for candidates to have prior experience in research, report writing, or administrative support. Additionally, any previous work experience or volunteering in support of vulnerable communities will be considered beneficial. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to humanitarian efforts, and flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Languages: The mandatory languages for this position are Bulgarian and English. Strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages are required. Knowledge of other UN languages, particularly Arabic and/or Russian, will be considered an additional asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
