Job Overview:
The Project Officer will play a crucial role in the FAO Mongolia office, focusing on the livestock sector's climate change initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for the elaboration of specific outcomes as outlined in the project document, ensuring alignment with national policies and international climate commitments. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government officials, international experts, and local communities, to enhance the capacity for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions measurement and develop effective policy recommendations. The Project Officer will also be involved in producing training materials and organizing capacity-building programs to support the implementation of livestock sector strategies aimed at reducing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Officer include drafting project operational documents such as terms of reference and bidding documents, conducting background research on the country's methane pledge and related policies, and organizing training sessions and workshops on GHG emission assessments. The officer will produce training materials for sector officials, collaborate with international experts to adapt models for livestock production systems, and co-produce credible GHG emissions results for specific sites. Additionally, the officer will modify and compile project reports and strategies, ensuring compliance with FAO standards and guidelines, and perform other relevant duties as requested by the FAO Representative and Assistant FAO Representative.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Environment, or a related field, with a PhD considered an asset. A minimum of 5 years of extensive working experience in climate change, livestock, or environmental sciences is required. Candidates should have a working knowledge of English and Mongolian and must be nationals of Mongolia. Strong analytical and writing skills in both languages, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate skills in organizing meetings and training sessions, as well as in collecting and integrating information for project development.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Agriculture or Environmental Sciences. A PhD degree will be considered an asset, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability in the relevant areas.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of extensive working experience in fields related to climate change, livestock management, or environmental sciences. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage with complex environmental issues and contribute to policy development and implementation.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Mongolian is mandatory for this position. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, as the role involves collaboration with local stakeholders and international experts. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
