Job Overview:
The position involves supporting the finalization and execution of the GEF-funded project titled 'Global Best Practices on Emerging Chemical Policy Issues of Concern under the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)'. The contractor will be responsible for developing and disseminating project deliverables, implementing knowledge management and engagement activities, and preparing for the first International Conference on the Global Framework on Chemicals scheduled for November 2026 in Geneva. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders and the preparation of background documents to facilitate informed decision-making regarding chemical management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The contractor will assist in finalizing and disseminating project deliverables, including technical reports and communication materials. Responsibilities include preparing summaries and communication products based on technical deliverables, organizing outreach activities, and facilitating events by liaising with speakers and partners. The contractor will provide technical backstopping for background documents related to issues of concern, support stakeholder consultations, and contribute to new project concepts. Additionally, the contractor will provide substantive input to reporting processes and support tasks related to pharmaceuticals in the environment and chemicals/waste issues as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as chemistry, environmental or chemical engineering, biology, health or natural sciences, environmental management, or pharmaceutical sciences. A PhD in a relevant field is considered an asset. Furthermore, candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in environmental or public health policy, chemical safety, or environmental management, with a focus on pharmaceutical residues in the environment. Strong technical expertise in environmental impact assessment and stakeholder engagement is essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as chemistry, environmental or chemical engineering, biology, health or natural sciences, environmental management, or pharmaceutical sciences. A PhD in a related field is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in environmental or public health policy, chemical safety, or environmental management. Candidates should have experience working with academia, the public sector, or the private sector, particularly focusing on the release of pharmaceutical residues into the environment. Strong technical expertise in environmental impact assessment and familiarity with global chemicals and waste governance is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is considered an asset and may enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
