Job Overview: The Madrid System Business Development Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting WIPO's marketing objectives aimed at increasing the utilization of the Madrid System for international trademark registration in Japan. This position involves engaging with various stakeholders, including agents, attorneys, and potential users, to promote the benefits of the Madrid System. The consultant will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes establishing relationships with key stakeholders, conducting meetings, and gathering market intelligence. The consultant will also be expected to report on user engagement and promotional activities, ensuring that the marketing goals are met effectively. This role requires a proactive approach to outreach and the ability to adapt strategies based on feedback and market trends.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties will include preparing and executing a marketing approach to connect with current and potential users of the Madrid System in Japan. This involves establishing and nurturing relationships with stakeholders such as agents, influencers, and applicants. The consultant will conduct one-on-one meetings with distinct potential filers and top filers, organize and participate in events, and achieve a minimum user engagement threshold each quarter. Additionally, the consultant will identify success stories for case studies, contribute to training materials, and provide detailed monthly reports on activities, market intelligence, and user support. The consultant will act as a focal point for inquiries related to the Madrid System and will be responsible for informing WIPO about relevant events in Japan.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in trademark registration and the Madrid System. They should have a university degree in law, business administration, or a related field. Experience in an IP Office or a comparable working environment is essential, along with a good understanding of WIPO's business and administrative procedures. The consultant must demonstrate integrity in handling confidential data and possess excellent communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders.

The consultant will be responsible for their own travel arrangements for missions within Japan, which will be reimbursed by WIPO. It is important to note that this position does not provide benefits such as vacation or sick leave, and the consultant will not be covered under WIPO Staff Regulations.
