Job Overview:
The Resident Coordinator (RC) serves as the highest-ranking representative of the United Nations development system at the country level. This role involves leading the UN country team, ensuring accountability for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, and coordinating UN support for the 2030 Agenda. The RC is responsible for fostering partnerships with government, civil society, and other stakeholders to address national needs and sustainable development challenges. The position requires a deep understanding of the UN's assets and expertise to promote peace and sustainable development, while also advocating for human rights and gender equality. The RC must engage with various partners to advance the SDGs and ensure that the UN's efforts align with national priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resident Coordinator has a wide range of responsibilities, including representing the UN at high levels of government, leading the UN country team in developing and monitoring the UN Cooperation Framework, coordinating system-wide support to the government, and advocating for the SDGs. The RC is tasked with promoting UN values, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and facilitating partnerships to enhance the UN's impact on sustainable development. Additionally, the RC is responsible for governance and oversight of country financing instruments, leading communication efforts to promote the 2030 Agenda, and ensuring the security of UN personnel. The RC also plays a crucial role in integrating humanitarian assistance with development programming, particularly in conflict and post-conflict settings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in fields such as development studies, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, or law. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with relevant experience may be accepted. A minimum of 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level is required, including five years in development, human rights, or humanitarian work at the country level. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or in security decision-making is desirable, along with strong diplomatic skills and the ability to engage with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields. Candidates with a first-level university degree and significant relevant experience may also be considered. The emphasis is on qualifications that demonstrate a strong understanding of international relations, development, and humanitarian issues.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, with at least five years in development, human rights, or humanitarian work outside of one's own country. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator is highly desirable, as is experience in security decision-making in complex environments. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing humanitarian programs and engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Spanish is required, with French being desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in these languages, as per the UN Language Framework. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the UN system and with external partners.

Additional Notes:
The position is classified as a C duty station, with a tour of duty length of four years, subject to change based on the hardship classification. The start date is as soon as possible, and eligibility is limited to candidates who are members of the Resident Coordinator Pool.
