Job Overview:
The Associate Banker position is a critical role within the Energy Eurasia team of the Sustainable Infrastructure Group at EBRD. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to all phases of the project cycle, which includes project origination, structuring, execution, and implementation. The Associate Banker will be responsible for conducting comprehensive due diligence, ensuring compliance with EBRD policies, and effectively monitoring projects post-signing. This role also involves elements of business development, client management, and policy dialogue, making it essential for candidates to possess strong analytical and communication skills. The Associate Banker will work closely with an operation leader and senior bankers, gaining valuable experience and expertise in transaction management and project finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Banker will undertake a variety of responsibilities under the guidance of an operation leader or a more senior banker. Key duties include:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborating as a project team member on transactions, conducting thorough research and analysis, evaluating potential risks, and preparing financial models.
  • Technical Cooperation Assistance: Leading the design and implementation of technical cooperation initiatives, ensuring alignment with investment project schedules.
  • Due Diligence: Driving the quality of project due diligence, preparing internal documentation, and ensuring compliance with EBRD policies.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: Implementing and monitoring assigned projects, preparing timely reports, and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Business Development: Assisting with marketing efforts and contributing to business development initiatives. The role is designed to facilitate the development of transaction expertise and prepare the Associate Banker for future leadership roles in project management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and develop financial models. Candidates should have credit analysis skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles. Additionally, at least 6 years of experience in finance, banking, or the energy sector is required, with a preference for experience in renewable energy and complex project finance structures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial analysis tools is necessary, along with excellent communication skills in English.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of financial concepts and project management. Candidates with professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA will have an advantage, as these credentials demonstrate a commitment to the finance profession and a high level of expertise in financial analysis and management.

Experience:
The Associate Banker role requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the finance or banking sector, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in the energy sector, particularly in renewable energy projects. Experience in complex project finance structures is highly desirable, as it indicates familiarity with the intricacies of financing large-scale projects. Candidates should have practical experience participating in transactions throughout the full project life cycle, showcasing their ability to manage projects from inception to completion.

Languages:
