Job Overview: The Senior Transportation Officer will be a key member of the Transportation Section within the General Services Division at the IMF. This role is pivotal in planning, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of global corporate travel for IMF employees. The successful candidate will ensure that travel operations are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with the organization's policies. The Transportation Section is also responsible for managing the travel payment credit card program and the Chauffeur Unit. The position requires a strategic approach to travel management, integrating technology to enhance the travel experience, and developing policies that align with the organization's goals. The Senior Transportation Officer will work closely with various departments and overseas offices to ensure satisfaction and address challenges related to travel.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Transportation Officer will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: overseeing the Travel Management Company (TMC) service to ensure smooth daily operations and adherence to contract performance standards; managing complex, multi-faceted projects and conducting thorough analyses of Fund travel to identify opportunities for efficiency and cost savings; assessing developments and emerging trends in the travel industry to provide recommendations for updates to internal travel procedures; serving as a primary contact for security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and Human Resources during emergency situations, including participation in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule; overseeing supplier performance, resolving vendor issues, and participating in Requests for Proposals (RFPs) by developing scopes of work and negotiating contract terms; developing and implementing communication strategies to share travel information and engage with departments and overseas offices; and creating meaningful reports of travel-related data to analyze spending, identify trends, and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree or equivalent in business administration, travel management, logistics and distribution management, or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of professional experience. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least ten years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Additionally, candidates with a minimum of two years of experience in a related position at Grade A10 or equivalent will also be considered. Proven experience in leading travel-related services for a global organization and expertise in managing third-party service partners are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to guide staff through changes in policies, processes, or technology while addressing complex challenges.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in business administration, travel management, logistics and distribution management, or a related field. A bachelor's degree with extensive relevant experience may also be considered. The educational qualifications should be supplemented by professional experience that aligns with the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a proven track record of leading travel-related services within a global organization. This includes overseeing the management of third-party service partners and demonstrating expertise in implementing new policies, processes, or technologies. Experience in airfare distribution systems, particularly IATA New Distribution Capability (NDC) systems, and familiarity with the Sabre Global Distribution System (GDS) are highly desirable. Candidates should also have in-depth knowledge of the travel industry, including travel management companies and data reporting systems, as well as experience with central billing systems and virtual payment solutions.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Candidates should possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with various stakeholders and represent the Transportation Section in working groups related to travel processes and procedures.
Additional Notes: The position is classified under the A11, A12 hiring levels, and the selected candidate will maintain their open-ended status if they are a regular staff member. Contractual employees will be offered a Term staff appointment, and current term staff may receive an extension if their term has not already been extended.
