Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position include developing and maintaining scripts and automation that interact with public cloud APIs to support cost control, budgets, and alerts. The candidate will collect, process, and analyze cloud usage and billing data to provide actionable cost insights. Additionally, they will build and operate dashboards and reports for monitoring cloud costs, forecasting, and detecting anomalies. The role also involves defining and enforcing cloud resource tagging and cost attribution practices across various projects and providers. Supporting day-to-day FinOps operations, including monitoring spending, investigating anomalies, and assisting project teams, is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the candidate will contribute to documentation, runbooks, and knowledge sharing regarding cloud cost management and best practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have experience with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Familiarity with native cost management tools in these platforms, such as budgets, cost explorer, and billing exports, is advantageous. Experience with FinOps methodologies and data-driven decision-making for cloud consumption is also a plus. The role requires proficiency in writing scripts or small applications for automation, data processing, or analysis, as well as programming or scripting experience in languages like Python or similar. An analytical mindset and an interest in working with usage, billing, or operational data are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, international team and communicate clearly.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and possess a professional background in Computer Science or a related field. They should have either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is important that the candidate has never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
