Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program contributes to peace and development globally through volunteerism. Established to promote the value and recognition of volunteer work, UNV collaborates with partners to integrate qualified and motivated volunteers into development programs. Active in approximately 130 countries each year, UNV has a presence on the ground in over 80 countries, making it a significant player in the global volunteer landscape. The program is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which enhances its operational capacity and outreach.

Job Overview:
The primary objective of this assignment is to bolster the Talent Acquisition strategies of the UNV Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. The selected Online Volunteer will play a crucial role in updating and strengthening the existing database of talent networks and outreach channels across the region. This task is vital as contact information, institutional structures, and outreach channels can change over time, potentially hindering the effectiveness of vacancy dissemination. By ensuring that these networks are current and relevant, the volunteer will help expand the reach of UN Volunteer opportunities and improve access for potential candidates from diverse territories and communities. The volunteer will be responsible for reviewing, updating, and complementing the existing mapping of universities, professional associations, community organizations, and other relevant networks in Panama, contributing to a stronger regional outreach database for UN Volunteer opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected volunteer will undertake several key tasks to support the UNV Talent Acquisition team. These tasks include:
  • Reviewing the existing database of universities, organizations, and professional networks to assess its current state.
  • Verifying the accuracy of contact details and institutional information to ensure reliability.
  • Updating outdated or missing information, such as websites, emails, and contact points, to maintain the database's relevance.
  • Identifying additional relevant institutions or networks that could serve as effective outreach channels for UN Volunteer opportunities.
  • Expanding the database to include networks that represent underrepresented groups, such as organizations for persons with disabilities (OPDs), indigenous networks, women's networks, and youth organizations, thereby enhancing inclusivity.
  • Organizing and systematizing the updated information using the template provided by UNV to ensure consistency and ease of access. The volunteer will focus on institutions and networks that can serve as potential dissemination channels for UN Volunteer opportunities, including universities, professional associations, NGOs, community organizations, and digital professional networks.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a volunteer who is detail-oriented and possesses strong research skills. Familiarity with databases and data management is essential, as the volunteer will be working with a pre-existing database. The ability to communicate effectively and work independently is also crucial, as the volunteer will be conducting desk research and updating information without direct supervision. Additionally, a commitment to the values of volunteerism and an understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion in outreach efforts are highly valued.

Educational Background:
While specific educational qualifications are not explicitly stated, a background in social sciences, international relations, or a related field would be beneficial. Knowledge of volunteerism and development work is also advantageous, as it aligns with the mission of the UNV program.

Experience:
The position is suitable for individuals with varying levels of experience, including students, recent graduates, or professionals looking to contribute to a meaningful cause. Previous experience in research, data management, or volunteer work would be beneficial but is not mandatory. The emphasis is on the ability to perform the tasks effectively and a willingness to learn and adapt.

Languages:
Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, as the work will be conducted in Panama. Knowledge of English is also desirable, as it may facilitate communication with the broader UNV network and resources. Additional languages relevant to the region could be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The position is a volunteer role, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides valuable experience in the field of international development and volunteerism. The role is expected to be part-time, allowing flexibility for the volunteer to manage their time effectively. The assignment may also involve remote work, depending on the volunteer's circumstances and the requirements of the UNV team.
