Job Overview: The Assistant(e) Technique WASH plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of activities related to water, sanitation, and hygiene. This position involves providing technical, administrative, and organizational support to ensure the effective execution of WASH projects. The individual in this role is expected to contribute to problem-solving, resource management, and the sharing of technical knowledge to enhance project outcomes. The Assistant(e) will work closely with various stakeholders, including local communities and technical teams, to ensure that WASH interventions are carried out in accordance with established guidelines and best practices. The position requires a proactive approach to addressing daily challenges and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, manuals, and guidelines.
Assist in the implementation of the WASH program portfolio in accordance with the action plan.
Independently implement procedures and activities within the scope of their function or core competencies, as delegated.
Organize and execute tasks according to priorities and standards.
Develop and maintain knowledge in the specialized field of work to provide effective support to the team.
Demonstrate initiative in solving daily problems in line with agreed procedures, priorities, and standards.
Prepare and develop reports as required by management.
Ensure proper filing of documents.
Develop technical drawings, quantitative and estimated quotes for construction/rehabilitation works and/or installation of identified WASH infrastructures. 1
Facilitate, supervise, and organize construction/rehabilitation works and/or installation of WASH infrastructures. 1
Support capacity building of qualified workers (e.g., masons, plumbers) and local populations. 1
Conduct physicochemical and bacteriological analyses of constructed/rehabilitated water facilities and within participating households. 1
Collect and share weekly evidence and verification sources of WASH facilities. 1
Monitor the procurement process for goods and services related to hard WASH activities and provide continuous feedback on quality to the manager. 1
Contribute to needs assessments and participant targeting through data collection/supervision to ensure quality and reliability of analysis. 1
Assist local partners in implementing hard WASH activities and regularly communicate with the manager about work quality and collaboration. 1
Contribute to data collection and complete necessary checklists to ensure the implementation of safe and inclusive programming considerations and follow-up on environmental screening recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
Desired professional experience in the technical field of WASH, with a focus on construction-related aspects.
Demonstrated experience with an NGO, preferably international, in an emergency humanitarian context, including displacement sites.
Willingness and ability to travel and work regularly in the field (outside the office) in complex and volatile contexts.
Proficiency in French, both written and spoken, and proficiency in Swahili.
Mastery of local languages in the intervention area.
Specific context, knowledge, skills, and experiences: Minimum of a degree in engineering (equivalent to BAC+3) in civil engineering, rural engineering, hydraulics, public works, or a related field.
In-depth knowledge of the humanitarian context of the assigned territories and health zones.
Knowledge of standards, including SPHERE.
Proven knowledge in water quality and treatment. 1
Experience in participatory methodologies working with communities in construction work and team management. 1
Proven knowledge of technical drawing software (AutoCAD, Sketchup, ArchiCAD, etc.) and calculation tools (Epanet, Robot SA, etc.) as well as office tools such as Excel and Word. 1
Good planning and activity monitoring skills. 1
Knowledge of mapping and GIS software such as QGIS is desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires a minimum of a degree in engineering, specifically in civil engineering, rural engineering, hydraulics, public works, or a similar field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary technical knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the WASH projects and activities.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant professional experience in the WASH technical field, particularly with a focus on construction aspects.
