The intern will work closely with the UN Resident Coordinator and the Head of RCO, gaining hands-on experience in international development and coordination. The role involves conducting research and analysis on critical issues such as land degradation and desertification, which are central to the UNCCD agenda. The intern will also assist in the preparation of various communication materials and support the organization of events related to COP1
Additionally, the internship will focus on enhancing the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools within the RCO to improve coordination, analysis, and knowledge management. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the UNCCD COP17 preparations and enhancing the RCO's operational capabilities. Key duties include: conducting research and analysis on land degradation, desertification, and drought; preparing briefing notes, talking points, and presentations for COP17; coordinating with government counterparts and UN agencies on related processes; organizing meetings, consultations, and workshops; contributing to communications and advocacy materials for COP17; supporting the use of AI and digital tools for research and data synthesis; developing templates and dashboards for reporting and planning; streamlining internal workflows through digital solutions; participating in RCO-organized meetings and activities; and assisting with special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Relevant fields of study include environmental studies, climate change, sustainable development, international relations, data science, information management, public policy, or related disciplines. Additionally, previous experience in organizing events, research projects, or conferences is considered an asset, along with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a strong educational background relevant to the internship's focus areas. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program in fields such as environmental studies, climate change, sustainable development, international relations, data science, information management, or public policy.
