Job Overview:
The Digital Experience Designer will provide technical design support to the Solutions team within UNICEF's Office of Innovation. This role requires a blend of user and visual design expertise, along with strong organizational and communication skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders across UNICEF. The designer will be responsible for guiding and mentoring teams supported by the Venture Fund, as well as assisting in the design, development, and rollout of early-stage digital initiatives, prototypes, and minimum viable products (MVPs). This includes UX and UI design for digital products and emerging technology initiatives, as well as visual communication of concepts and insights for both internal and external stakeholders. The position also involves facilitating design sprints and workshops, supporting knowledge management, and contributing to processes related to Human-Centered Design (HCD).

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide design technical guidance, support, and mentorship to Venture Fund-supported seed and growth cohort teams and portfolio companies.
  • Collaborate with UNICEF’s Office of Innovation and other teams, divisions, and Country Offices to implement design support.
  • Support the design, development, and rollout of early-stage digital initiatives, prototypes, and MVPs, including UX and UI design for digital products.
  • Create visual communications of concepts, processes, and insights for internal and external stakeholders, including reporting support.
  • Facilitate design sprints and workshops to assist UNICEF’s Office of Innovation and other teams.
  • Support knowledge management, toolkits, and processes related to Human-Centered Design (HCD).
  • Generate user requirements, personas, storyboards, journey maps, and use case scenarios.
  • Create interactive prototypes using tools like Figma, Sketch, and Adobe CC.
  • Conduct research and consultation for web-based designs, apps, and data information systems, focusing on information architecture and systems mapping design.

Required Qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in interaction design, product design, human-computer interaction, information design, or a related field.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in UX/UI product design, HCD, and visual experience.
  • Strong understanding of design systems and front-end architecture.
  • Experience in creating interactive prototypes and facilitating Human-Centered Design workshops, particularly in emerging markets.
  • Excellent research, written, and verbal communication skills.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in fields such as interaction design, product design, human-computer interaction, information design, or information architecture. Alternatively, a first University Degree in a relevant field combined with two additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in UX/UI product design, human-centered design, and visual experience. Candidates should have experience in user experience and interaction design, research and consultation for web-based designs, apps, and data information systems, as well as information architecture and systems mapping design. Experience in creating interactive prototypes and facilitating workshops is also essential, particularly with a focus on emerging markets.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The position is a consultancy role with a duration of 12 months, based in Stockholm or remote coordinated with Stockholm. The consultant is responsible for arranging their own travel, including travel insurance. Payment of professional fees will be based on the submission of agreed deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if the deliverables do not meet the required standards or if there are delays.
