Job Overview:
The Communications and Reporting Associate position is a national role under a National UNOPS contract at level LICA
  • The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Associate Protection Officer and will be responsible for a variety of functions related to communications, external relations, and reporting. This role requires the ability to operate independently on routine assignments while maintaining frequent contact with colleagues and stakeholders in Belize and the MCO-Panama. The Associate will support a wide range of communications activities, including the development of communication materials, planning visibility initiatives, drafting social media content, and producing donor reports. The position demands a proactive approach to building and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders to enhance UNHCR's visibility and outreach efforts, particularly in the context of forced displacement and statelessness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Communications and Reporting Associate include supporting the implementation of communications activities for Belize, identifying thematic priorities and target audiences, monitoring news and trends, forging strategic partnerships, developing authoritative content, assisting in the preparation of media and communications materials, maintaining and upgrading communications skills, consolidating data for reports, liaising with partners, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. The Associate may also assist in implementing campaigns and events, undertake missions and field trips, and perform other related duties as required. This role is crucial for leading the narrative on forced displacement and showcasing UNHCR's impact through effective communication strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess relevant experience in implementing communications strategies and developing communications materials. Excellent writing and editing skills are essential, along with proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of MS Office applications. Experience in communications and public information is also required. The position demands a proactive and creative approach to communication, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders and produce high-quality content that resonates with target audiences.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma, with a preference for candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education. Relevant certifications in communications or public relations are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience for those with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant work experience for those with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Experience should include implementing communications strategies, developing materials, and engaging with diverse audiences in a professional context.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages such as Creole, French, or Mayan languages is considered an asset and may enhance communication efforts with various communities and stakeholders.

This position is classified under the hardship level A, indicating a low hardship environment. It is a family-type position, and candidates must be nationals of Belize or non-Belizeans residing in the country with a valid work and residency permit. The target start date for this position is April 1, 2026, and candidates may be required to sit for a written test as part of the selection process.
